The 1969-70 Vin Numbers

Locations:

  1. Reverse-stamped (from the rear) onto the aluminum Ford identification plate which is pop-riveted to the dash board near the bottom of the windshield on the driver’s side; visible from the outside through the windshield.
  2. Reverse-stamped into a door tag on the top left-hand corner of the warranty plate pop-riveted to the rear edge of the driver’s door. Shows build code, DSO code, code for body style, exterior and interior colors, engine, transmission, and rear end ratio. In 1970 a decal was used instead of an aluminum plate.
  3. Stamped into the driver’s and passengers inner fender panel; approximately halfway back between the shock towers and firewall; not visible with fenders on or the hood open. Serial numbers of all 1970 cars begins with ‘9’ instead of ‘0’.
